CONCEPT
About EMC Congress 2024
The European Microscopy Congress 2024 (EMC) is a significant event in the field of microscopy. It was held from August 25 to 30, 2024, at the Bella Center in Copenhagen, Denmark and had an attendance of 2,500 registrants from at least 51 countries. The congress included various activities such as the publication of abstracts in scientific journals and a scientific image competition.
The Challenge
Following the pandemic-related cancellation of the previous congress, there was both great expectation and some uncertainty around engagement levels. The challenge was to re-establish momentum, create renewed excitement, and manage the many moving parts of a large-scale international congress: scientific programme, logistics, branding, and stakeholder communication. With participants and contributors from over 50 countries, it required meticulous planning and coordination to ensure a smooth and engaging experience.
The Solution
MCI Scandinavia partnered closely with the local organising committee to deliver a comprehensive congress solution from start to finish. This included full project management, delegate services, and exhibitor handling. In addition, MCI delivered visual branding and communication tools such as the official website, printed material (flyers, postcards, sponsor prospectus), and managed the congress’ LinkedIn presence to drive engagement. The scientific programme featured a robust and well-structured abstract handling system, ensuring a seamless experience for the 1,360 abstracts, 772 poster presenters, and 438 oral speakers.
The Result
EMC2024 exceeded expectations and marked a strong return for the congress series. The event attracted 2,500 attendees and exhibitors from 53 countries, highlighting Copenhagen as a leading destination for international congresses. The strong turnout and high-quality sessions reflected the community’s trust and interest. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, particularly in regard to the organisation, venue experience, and social atmosphere. The congress also successfully brought scientific dialogue back to a physical setting after years of virtual limitations, helping to strengthen global collaboration.
